This is my story about our project on the Greenbrier River.

I have searched for a nice river property for quite some time and found a listing for 2.06 acres near Alderson, West Virginia in November 2013. There were other properties on the Greenbrier to be considered also, but this is the one I bought.

With these web pages I hope to chronicle this project as it goes along.

I first saw the property in November 2013. It's located on Route 63 just a mile upstream from the little town of Alderson. Here are some Google Earth screenshots.

In the Clerk's office I searched the title a bit and found a good recent survey of the property.

So now let's have a look at it. The property was unimproved and obviously had been lying idle for quite some time. A steep and narrow driveway was its entrance, and that was blocked by a huge fallen oak tree. Here's what it looked like on December 4, 2013.

I climbed across the fallen tree and found the property to be an old clearing along the river, now grown up in tall weeds and saplings.

But WOW! this property really had something going for it - just about the finest hole of water I have seen.

Tammy and I had decided against the other properties we were considering, and this one had to be it. I made up my mind to negotiate a contract to purchase it. On December 6, 2013 we came to terms and had it in writing.

The contract was contingent on having an acceptable septic permit. The realtor recommended a contractor to do the perk test. I contacted him and asked when it might be done. His response, "Maybe by February." Seems we were in the wet season of winter and would have to wait for drier weather.

In the meantime, I decided I should whack down some of those weeds so the septic inspection could be done.
